One of the best beaches on Maui is Kaanapali Beach. This beach is very popular amongst vacationers and has many hotels along its 1.5 mile long beach. This beach is much less crowded than those on the island of Oahu. This beach is located in the west part of Maui and is perfect for parasailing, surfing, volleyball and sailing. On the northern most end of the beach is “Black Rock” which is known for snorkeling and cliff diving ceremonies that take place every day at sunset.
This beach is considered to be more of a secret paradise which allows for the ideal getaway from the large crowds of people on the more populated beaches. Although it is smaller it always has wonderful swimming conditions and has soft sands which are perfect for sunbathers and children to make their dream sandcastles. A little off of the beach lies an underwater reef that is great for snorkeling.
Kapalua Beach is on our list of best beaches on Maui from its warm sands to its lava rocks and palm trees…this is one of the most popular beaches in the state of Hawaii. Ranked as one of the top beaches in the nation, this beach is perfect for families with children thanks to its calm waters and natural tide pools. In the winter you can even see whales migrating to deeper waters!
A little further down the beach of Kaanapali is Kahekili beach. These two beaches are separated by lava rock and a hotel but it is the perfect spot for amazing snorkeling and scuba diving. This can be a slightly more dangerous spot for swimmers because of the hidden rocks and strong currents so be careful when adventuring out that way!
Check out this picture-perfect sunset! Napili Bay is a charming beach known for its fantastic swimming conditions, golden sand and crazy snorkeling. You could spend an entire day at this beach thanks to all of the great activities and easy access picnicking – this is where we would want to spend every single day!
Makena Beach (Big Beach)
Makena beach is South Maui’s largest beach and is about a 50 minute drive from Lahaina. This beach is nearly 2/3 of a mile long and 100 yards wide. There is great swimming and snorkeling in these pristine waters. It is nestled in between two black-lava outcroppings and provides a more secluded landscape compared to more crowded beaches like Kaanapali and Lahaina.
This beautiful, long white-sand beach is a favorite with local families. This beach comes with the whole shabang – lifeguards, port-a-potties, showers, barbecues, picnic tables and a covered pavilion. Baldwin beach is very popular amongst boogie-boarders and even has a baby beach on the west end that offer calmer pools for little ones.
